Board of Directors

Wendy Pesavento joined the board in 2010 and is the current President.  She has two sons, Ethan and Lucas, who are in 2nd and 3rd grade, respectively.  As a mother of two active boys, it was important to Wendy to find an educational environment that allowed the boys to have freedom of movement in the classroom.  Montessori kids are trusted to respect others when they move about the classroom and receive positive reinforcement when they model appropriate behavior.  Wendy’s education is in business and accounting.  She is a small business owner in the healthcare industry.  Wendy’s goal for the 2011-2012 school year is to encourage as many parents as possible to volunteer their time and talents to improve the educational and social experience of our children.

Susan Vonderheid joined the board in 2010 and currently serves as Treasurer. Her daughter Ella is in 4th grade and enjoys the math and science works and the many field trips offered at FVMS. Susan’s professional background is in health services research. She hopes to contribute to the financial well-being of the school and help sustain the high quality of education provided by the wonderful FVMS staff.

Todd Laufenberg joined the board in 2010 and currently serves as the Secretary.  His two sons both attend FVMS; Oliver is in the third year of the Lower Elementary classroom, and Emerson will move up from the Toddlers class to the Primary classroom this year.  Todd is an English teacher at Waubonsee Community College.  This year, Todd looks forward to seeing the FVMS grow and sustain the powerful impact it has on the lives of the students and on all of the members of the school community.

Maggie Carranza joined the board in 2011. Her professional background is in mechanical engineering and marketing. Maggie currently works as a project engineer in the electronics industry.  She brought her 3 year-old Natalie Grace to FVMS in January 2011 with the intention of maximizing the benefits of FVMS’s Montessori education by continuing through the elementary program. Maggie serves as the Chair of the Fundraising Committee and takes a leadership role in developing marketing strategies and strategies to enrich the student’s experiences with science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) concepts. Maggie looks forward to contributing to effective fundraising and marketing strategies needed to sustain financial health and organizational growth.  Her vision for FVMS is to become a model Montessori school with expanded toddler and elementary programs.

Deb Martin joined the board in Fall 2011 and currently is the Chair of the Parent Liaison Committee.  Her son Jordan entered 2nd grade this year and took great pride in helping the 1st graders as they joined Lower Elementary.  Deb’s business background is in Banking and Manufacturing.  Deb and her husband are Small Business Owners in the Staffing Industry. During their four years at FVMS, they have watched their son grow into an educated, kind young man.  “Although boys will be boys, he has a kinder spirit due to the outstanding staff at this great school”.  Deb looks forward to serving on the Board and contributing to the growth and success of FVMS.

Aileen Mayka joined the board in 2011. She has a business background with expertise in providing strategic consulting on people and organizational development strategies. Having enrolled her son Dylan a few years ago, Aileen has proudly watched him thrive in the prepared environment at FVMS.
